NEW CENTRAL COMMANDER ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu assumed duties as the Commander Security Forces (Central) at the auspicious time at 0752 hrs on 14 September 20156 by lighting the traditional oil lamp amidst religious observances during a brief ceremony. Afterward, Major General Upul Vithanage planted a tree sapling in the Headquarters premises as a token of memory of his assumption of office in the SF HQ (Central).

On 22 September 2016, in accordance with military traditions, Major General Upul Vithanage reviewed the Guard Turnout and received the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by troops of 18 Gemunu Watch at the Rondow grounds in SF HQ (Central) premises - Diayatalawa.

Afterward, Major General Upul Vithanage posed for a group photograph with all Officers of Security Force Headquarters (Central), General Officer Commanding 11 Division, Brigade Commanders of 111,112,121 and 122 Brigades, Commanding Officers of affiliated Unit and Combat Support Battalions, Under Command Units and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters (Central).

Subsequently, Commander, addressing all ranks at the Other Ranks' Mess, emphasized the religious significance of the area under command to the Security Forces (Central) and the importance of Army's social responsibility towards the civil society. Major General Upul Vithanage later on took part in an all-rank tea party.

Prior to his appointment as the Commander Security Forces (Central), he held the appointment of Commander Security Forces (Mullaitivu).
