NEDUNGAMUWE RAJA WAS HANDED OVER TO THE AUTHORITIES

The Kandy Esala Perahera was concluded successfully after the water cutting ceremony on 26 August 2018. Following that, the main tusker of the procession, Nedungamuwe Raja, who arrived at the Dalanda Maligawa on 20 August 2018 from Nedungamuwa for the 12th consecutive year, was taken back to Gampaha on 26 August 2018.

In accordance with the instructions of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG, providing the security and other coordinating tasks of the perahera were done by the troops of SF (Cen). Consequently, 1 officer and 08 soldiers from 2 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) under command to 11 Division of Security Forces (Central) provided the security for the tusker from Dalanda Maligawa to the Kadugannawa tunnel.
