The Esala Perahera is a major event organized at the Sri Dalanda Maligawa in Kandy which is considered as the prominent religious place of the Buddhists. Accordingly, on the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG, providing the security and other coordinating tasks of the perahera are done by the troops of SF (Cen) since this sacred place is located in the responsible area of Security Forces (Central).
The main tusker of the Kandy Esala Perahera, Nadungamuwe Raja, arrived at the Dalada Maligawa on 20 August 2018 from Nadungamuwa for the 12th consecutive year. On 19 August 2018 around 1945 hours troops of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment received the tusker from the troops of 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) at the Kadugannawa tunnel and accompanied the tusker safely to the Dalanda Maligawa.
There the tusker was handed over to the Secretary of the Perahera, Mr Jayampathi Weddagala and the contribution provided by the troops for the security of the tusker was appreciated by the organizing committee of the Perahera.
