MILITARY PERSONNEL ASSISTED A NATIONAL TREE PLANTING PROGRAMME

Planting Jack trees within the Army Cantontment area in Diyathalawa was held on 07 September 2018 in Kahaththewela area in Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat in parallel with the National Tree Planting Project which aimed to plant 10,00 000 Jack trees island wide. This occasion was graced by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon Mahinda Amaraweera.

On the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG, troops contributed for this campaign. Further, the Brigadier Admin and Quartering of Security Forces (Central), Brigadier E R P Weerawardane along with 15 officers and 110 soldiers participated in this eco friendly programme.

In addition, Jack trees as well as Potato seeds were also distributed among the civilians who were present at the occasion by the minister in order to uplift the agriculture in the area.
