A number of 180 students belongs to the Ragama medical faculty of Kelaniya University, were stranded in the Hanthana mountain range during a hiking trip in the morning hours of 02 December 2023. The hikers lost their way back due to fog and rain prevailing in the mountain range.
With the assistance of police, troops belongs to 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment made their way towards the mountain range to locate the stragglers. Army members were able to rescue the stranded students amidst thick fog and dripping rain.
