A conference was held at the Grand Mosque in Bogambara, Kandy in order to prevent the communal conflicts which all the communities experienced in the recent past. On the direction of the Commander of the Army this conference took place on 02 July 2018 with the participation of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General G R H Dias VSV USP ndc psc IG‚ Major General Ranawana RWP RSP ndc psc former GOC 11 Div‚ Major General T J Nanayakkara RWP USP ndu GOC 11 Div and sevaral senior officers. Representing Muslim community, religious leaders, businessmen and other intellectuals participated in the conference to discuss the reasons for conflicts, precautions which can be taken to improve the unity and the reconciliation among the communities.
At this conference Muslim leaders appreciated the effort taken by the SL Army to control the unrest situation in the area being impartial and the way of taking correct decisions at the correct moment. Further, they extended their gratitude for resettling Muslims in their own residence by renovating their houses within a short period and the assistance rendered by the military personnel to rebuild the peace in the society. There, the Muslim representatives showed their gratitude towards the Commander of the Army, Commander Security Forces (Central), the former General Officer Commanding of 11 Division and the other senior officers who truly mediated to control the unrest among the communities.
