CENTRAL TROOPS WELCOME THEIR NEW COMMANDER

Troops of Security Force Headquarters (Central), organized a series of military formalities to welcome the new Commander Security Force (Central), Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc of the prestigious Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, on 05 July 2023.

The senior officer was warmly welcomed by the senior staff officers of the headquarters, and troops accorded him a guard turnout and guard of honour abiding military ceremonial customs. The new commander assumed duties with the blessings of multi-religious leaders, and received compliments and best wishes from General Officers Commanding, Senior Staff Officers, Brigade Commanders and Battalion Commanders of the Security Force (Central). Officers from Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police and Special Task Force also joined in the ceremony to give their compliments to the new commander. After the maiden troops address, the Security Force Commander interacted with all officers and other ranks at the tea party and lunch.

Major General Nalinda Niyangoda is a proud product of Dharmaraja College, Kandy. He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an officer cadet to Intake 31, on 20 January 1989. Upon the successful completion of military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy – Diyatalawa, he was poted to Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, and later joined the Special Forces Regiment to serve the nation. Having held most of the unit level appointments, he had the opportunity to Command both 10th Reinforcement Regiment of Armored Corps in Infantry role and Commanding Officer of the 4th Armoured Regiment. Being elevated to higher command appointments, he commanded both 511 Infantry Brigade and 512 Infantry Brigade, and recently he has commanded the 54 Infantry Division in Mannar.

Not limited ti the motherland, the senior officer have served in foreign operations as Commander - Additional Tri Services Contingent MINUSTAH, Haiti, and was employed in n United Nations Mission in South Sudan as a Military Liaison Officer. The illustrious career of the senior officer elaborates his capacities in instructional and staff roles in the army. He has performed duties as Chief Instructor, Commanding Officer and Commandant in the esteemed Sri Lanka Military Academy – Diyatalawa. He has discharged many responsibilities as a staff officer in many establishments up to Army Headquarters.

Adding more colours and experience to his career, Major General Nalinda Niyangoda has followed both local and foreign courses in the discipline of military and non-military. He attended the Defence Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka in year 2003 and National Defence University, Pakistan in year 2020. Apart from the military qualifications, the senior officer has excelled in academics by earning Masters of Science (Disaster Management) – Post Graduate Institute of Science (PGIS) University of Peradeniya and Doctor of Philosophy (Disaster Management) – University of Sorbon, France.
