Given to the torrential rains prevailing in central highlands, the vehicular passage along the Colombo - Badulla main road was disrupted in the afternoon on 21 October 2023. The adverse weather condition caused a slope failure at Haputale where the rocks and mounds of earth blocked the road movements.
At the first notice of the disaster, troops of Security Force Headquarters Central swiftly responded and briskly cleared the road with the assistance of Police Traffic Branch members and the labours of Haputale Municipal Council. The Army disaster response team was successful in the operation as they quickly restored the vehicular movements of the main road.
