Security Force Headquarters (Central) has organized a grand Vesak Festival for all communities of Diyatalawa align with the International Vesak Day celebrations from 10th to 14th May 2017 at Muthukumaru Ground with the guidance and supervision of Major General PUS Vithanage RSP ndu, Commander, Security Forces (Central).
Military personnel of this Headquarters and its under command Units and Training schools, Air Force Base Diyatalawa and the staff of the Holiday Bungalow of Sri Lanka Navy contributed in making of different creations to the Vesak Zone and more than 16 colourful and innovative Vesak Lanterns were displayed for the exhibition at the Muthukumaru Ground and three lanterns were selected and awarded. The winners were:
1st place - 17 Engineer Services Regiment
2nd place - 7 Sri Lanka Signal Corps
3rd place - Volunteer Force Training School, Diyatalawa
Mr Nimal Abesiri, District Secretary, Badulla participated as the chief guest of this event while winners were awarded by the Commander, Security Forces (Central) and other distinguished guests. Moreover, gifts as well as certificates were also distributed in appreciation of the school children who added more glamour to the event by singing devotional songs (Vesak Bhakthi Gee). Meanwhile, the devotees enjoyed Manioc and Grams Dansala, organized by the troops.
