11 Division Headquarters in Kandy under the Security Force Headquarters – Central (SFHQ-C) had a separate National War Heroes day ( Ranaviru Day ) to commemorate fallen War Heroes on Monday (12) at Mailapitiya war monument.
Mr Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor for Central Province as the Chief Guest, together with Mr Sarath Ekanayake, Chief Minister for Central Province, Mr Premawansa, Chief Secretary of Central Province, Mr Gamini Dasanayake, Secretary to the Governor, Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander SFHQ-C, senior officers from tri-services, Police officers, relatives of War Heroes and a gathering of grateful civilians took part in the Ranaviru commemoration.
The ceremony began after observing on-minute silence in memory of fallen and missing War Heroes. It followed floral wreath-laying and oil lamp lighting.
A distribution of gift parcels among children of War Hero families who passed the GCE (O/L) exam, the Governor for Central Province made a brief speech, reminding the gathering of the importance of recalling of War Hero memories.
