ARMY TROOPS RECOVERED THE DEAD BODY OF A GERMAN LADY WHO HAD ACCIDENTLY FALLEN FROM WORLD'S END

Upon the request by the Police, dead body of 35 years old German lady who had accidently fallen from the world's end cliff top on 11 Nov 2018 at about 0730 hrs was recovered by the SF Central troops around 2100 hrs on 12 Nov 2018. The task was carried out under the close supervision of Comd, 112 Bde, Brig N W A A Wijesooriya RWP RSP USP under the direction of the Comd Security Forces Central, Maj Gen W R P De Silva USP ndc IG.

No sooner the incident was reported to 11 Div HQ, 2 x 18 troops from 3 (V) SLSR Bn deployed at N'Eliya rushed to the scene in order to rescue the Lady. Commanding Officer of 3 (V) SLSR, Major W A M Ranathilaka led the troops and after searching few hrs around 1240 hrs they found that a dead body was laying down at the bottom of the cliff nearly 400 m deep from the top of the World's End. According to the information passed dawn by the CO, 3 (V) SLSR, bringing the dead body was planned from Balangoda. Non-Perial Estate direction as it was the only possible access to the deep end of the World's End. The task was extremely difficult due to ground configurations and adverse weather conditions prevailed in the area, After receiving the details about the situation from 112 Bde Comd, Comd SF Central directed to send some more troops to assist troops deployed initially from 3 (V) SLSR bn.

Accordingly, 2 x 20 from 3(V) SLSR, 1 X 16 from SFHQ (Central) and 2 X 15 from 8 GW from Security Forces West also participated at the last part of the operation. Further, some Wildlife and Police officers also took part in this task. However, with immense difficulties, finally, SF Central troops were able to bring the dead body of the German Lady to a track at the far end of the tea state, and the dead body was hand over to the Samanalawewa Police Station around 2135 hrs on 12 Nov 2018 for legal proceedings. After a tired and successful mission, SF Central troops returned to the camp by 0200 hrs on 13 Nov 2018.
