ANOTHER ICC AT NUWARAELIYA

The view of responding to the sudden emergence of new positive cases of COVID -19 in relation to the 3rd wave while strengthening the capacity of the health care system, the government Building owned by Thondaman Cultural Centre - Ramboda, Nuwara Eliya was recently improvised as an Intermediate Care Center (ICC). It is expected to accommodate 275 patients (275-Beds) at any given time in addition to National Youth Corps - Kande-ela, Meepilimana (150-Beds) and Divisional Hospital - Walapane (87-Beds), National Institutes of Plantation Management- Bagawanthalawa (146-Beds) and Town Hall - Nuwara Eliya (500-Beds) ICCs in Nuwara Eliya District to meet the emerging health care demands of Central Province.

3rd Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 19th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard troops extended their restless support for the construction in order to facilitate essential requirements of the medical staff and operational mechanism at the ICC prior to the commencement of treatment with the support of the Honourable State Minister Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure Jeevan Thondaman by extending the premises, Government Agent and Staff of District Secretariat – Nuwara Eliya, Assistant Government Agent and Staff of Divisional Secretariate – Kothmale and Health Sector Staff - Nuwara Eliya.

The ICC was handed over to health authorities by the Commander Security Forces - Central, Major General Ranjan Lamahewage RWP RSP ndu on 28 May 2021. This ICC conversion process was carried out with the cooperation of Major General Kithsiri Liyanage RWP RSP ndu - General Officer Commanding 11 Infantry Division - Brigadier Anura Dissanayake WWV RWP RSP - Commander 112 Infantry Brigade and Major Asitha Ranathilake - The Commanding Officer - 3rd Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

Government Agent – Nuwara Eliya – Mr. G K G A R P K Nandana, Assistant Government Agent - Kothmale - Mrs. O S Perera, District Director of Health Service - Dr. R Manathunga & District Epidemiologist - Dr. Madura Seneviratne were present on the occasion.
