12 Infantry Division troops facilitate security and admin for the devotees who are coming to participate “Esala Perahera” in Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya.
Security undertaken by 3 Sri Lanka National Guard troops under 122 Infantry Brigade of 12 Infantry Division and admin facilities are undertaken by 9 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps in Security Forces Headquarters Central. All these facilities are undertaken by the troops in close collaboration with state agencies.
Guidelines for all above matters given by the commander Security Forces Central Major General Samantha Silva and the close supervision of Major General Lanka Amarapala General Officer Commanding 12 Infantry Division were enable the troops to provide those facilities.
The final procession of the annual Esala perahera was held on poya day night (11 Aug 2022) at Devala premises. Kiriwehera Chief incumbent Ven. Kobawaka Damminda Thero , High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka HE Gopal Baglay, General Officer Commanding 12 Infantry Division Major General Lanka Amarapala, District Secretary Monaragala Mr Gunadasa Amarasekara, and Basnayake Nilame Dishan Gunasekara were present for perahera formalities.
