12 Division SFHQ-C Contribute to Vesak Commemoration

Officers and soldiers serving 12 Division Headquarters under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C), in coordination with government and private sector organizations in Kataragama area, made elaborate Vesak arrangements on account of the Thrice Blessed Day during May13-15.

The Vesak zone that covered from Kataragama, Gam Udawa junction up to Mahasen roundabout was organized on the instructions of Brigadier N.A Dharmaratne, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division.

112 Brigade troops, 14 Gajaba Regiment troops, 17 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops, 10 (V) Gemunu Watch troops and 18 Sri Lanka National Guard troops actively contributed to the success of the arrangements which were attended by Uva Chief Minister Mr Shashindra Rajapaksa, Hon Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-C as Chief Guests on all three days respectively.

All first three best lanterns and ten more were awarded cash gifts and other consolation prizes as incentives to the producers those lanterns.

Meanwhile, SFHQ-C had its own Vesak commemorative ceremonies organized at Rondawood gardens at Diyatalawa with the participation of all training institutes, battalions and units serving the SFHQ-C.

Soldiers made Vesak lanterns that depicted various life stories of the Buddha attracted the attention of large crowds of civilians who visited the Vesak zone and the Bakthi Gee presentation of the SFHQ-C.

Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-C attended the inauguration of the Bakthi Gee as the Chief Guest after viewing Vesak decorations made by the troops.
