The Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival was Celebrated by the Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre with participation of the residents of Dambulu Halmillawewa and neighbouring villagers at the Dambulu Halmillawewa School Ground on 09th April 2018. Major General Kumudu Perera, Colonel of the Regiment and Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) graced the event as the Chief Guest. The event was ceremonially declared open with the hoisting of National flag and lightening of the traditional oil lamp.
The event was organized under the guidance of the Centre Commandant, Colonel Udaya Herath and close supervision of the Deputy Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel Kumara Wanasinghe with the participation of staff of the Regimental Centre. The event included many varieties of traditional games and fun-making features in par with traditional customs which included Marathon, Bicycle Race, Tug of War, Beauty Queen Contest (Bakmaha Kumariya) and many more traditional games. As well as the traditional "Gemi Gedara" built in the premises was given more attraction to the event.
The event was graced with the presence of many senior officers of the regiment including several civil distinguished guests in the area. The event was culminated with a colourful musical show played by the regimental beat group. The event was sponsored by the Nestle Lanka Private Limited.
