The Inter Battalion Athletics Championship - 2018 of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment began on 24 February 2018 at Kilinochchi Central College Play Ground. 5th (V) Battalion Mechanized Infantry organized the event. The Commanding Officer 5 (V) Mech Inf, Lt Col HKS Thilakaratne Officially open the event.
The closing ceremony of the Inter Battalion Athletics Championship 2018 held on 27 February 2018. The event was graced by Major General J R Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, the Colonel of the Regiment as the Chief Guest.
The Brigade Commander, Colonel L S Balachandra RSP and the Centre Commandant Colonel H M U Herath RWP RSP USP psc warmly welcome the Chief Guest. The Commanding Officer 5 (V) Mech Inf, Lt Col HKS Thilakaratne welcomed the gathering in his brief address. The Colonel of the Regiment and invitees were witness the final rounds of several athletic events. The Commandant - Mechanized Infantry Training Centre, Lt Col G P P Kulatilaka and all Commanding Officers of Battalions also participated for the event.
Finally, 5th (V) Battalion Mechanized Infantry won the Championship of Inter Battalion Athletics Championship - 2018 while 1st Battalion Mechanized Infantry secured the second place.
Band display performed by the Regiment Brass Band and March past gave more glamour to the event. The Colonel of the Regiment was invited to award medals and trophies to achievers in the tournament. The formal closure of the mega event was announced by the Colonel of the Regiment after lowering of flags followed by National Anthem to suit the military traditions and formalities.
