The Mechanized Infantry Regiment Centre organised a traditional New Year Festival on 08 April 2024 at RHQ to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2024. The Centre Commandant graced the event as the Chief Guest and the event was inagurated by hoisting the flags followed by the lightening of traditional oil lamp.
The event was comprised of a variety of traditional games and fun-making features in par with traditional customs which included pillow fighting, goni race, eye placing on the elephant, lime balancing, Awurudu Kumaraya Contest, fancy dress competition etc.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civil servants took part in the series of events. Thereafter, the Centre Commandant extended his best wishes for a happy and prosperous Sinhala and Tamil New Year on behalf of the Col of the Regt and admired everyone’s contribution towards the success of the event. Finally, the day’s programme was culminated with a fabulous all ranks lunch which was arranged at the MIRC auditorium.
