The Mechanized Infantry Regiment celebrated its 12th anniversary day on 16th February 2019 at the Regimental Centre. The event was organized under the direction of Colonel of the Regiment and close supervision of the Centre Commandant, Colonel S J Priyadarshana RWP RSP USP.
The celebration was commenced with multi religious ceremonies in order to invoke blessings to the Regiment. Religious activities were commenced at Kataragama KiriVehera, Kataragama Devalaya, Jaya Sri MahaBodhiya and Dalada Maligawa. Afterwards, other religious rituals were performed at Roman Catholic Church-Wahakotte followed by Hindu and Islamic religious activities at Galewela Hindu Kovil and Puwakpitiya Mosque respectively.
Commemorating the 12th Anniversary of the Regiment, the Colonel of the Regiment Brigadier A M S B Atapattu, was honoured with the Guard Turnout and colourful Military Parade presented on 16 February 2019 by Mechanized Infantry troops comprises with Infantry Carrying Vehicles (ICVs) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).
Soon after the parade the Colonel of the Regiment planted a King Coconut sapling to mark the 12th anniversary day. Thereafter, Colonel of the Regiment participated for the all ranks tea party and spent some time to share his thoughts with Other Ranks.
Same day evening "Guest Night" was held at the Officers' Mess with the participation of Colonel of the Regiment, President of Mechanized Infantry Ladies Club, Mrs. Fredrica Atapattu, Mechanized Infantry Officers, their spouses and Children.
The anniversary day event will culminate with the Musical Show and All Ranks Get-together on 18 February 2019.
