The Mechanized Infantry Regiment bid farewell to its outgoing Colonel of the Regiment Major General GDHK Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc on 02nd & 03rd September 2016. The Farewell Dinner hosted in respect of the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment and his lady by all Officers of the Regiment at the Officers\' Mess. Senior officers and officers along with their spouses graced the farewell dinner to pay tribute to the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment.
A Guard Turnout and a subsequent Guard of honour was presented in honour of Colonel of the Regiment at the Mechanized Infantry Regimental Headquarters,Dambuluhalmillawewa.
The Colonel of the Regiment also laid the cornerstone to construct a monument in honour of fallen war heroes of Mechanized infantry regiment before he took leave of the regiment.
