Exercise - Cormorant Strike VIII - 2017’, the multi-national Field Training Exercise (FTX), organized by the Sri Lanka Army, conducted for the 8th consecutive year with the participation of Sri Lankan Tri-Forces and 69 foreign participants representing 13 countries around the world. More than 2675 Army, Navy and Air Force troops, including 69 foreign military participants and observers, Commandos, Special Forces and Mechanized infantry troops were taking part together for the Exercise. The Exercise was aimed to enhance the preparation, operational readiness and efficiency of the Force.\r\nMechanized Infantry troops boarded with APCs to naval vessels to be taken to hostile territories for the mock operation. The induction and de-induction of the troops took place simultaneously as the most exiting accomplishments, technically identified as the ‘Critical Engagement’ of the Exercise at Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee where a simulated multi-pronged joint amphibious attack on enemy hideouts was carried out.\r\nIt is a timely requirement to conduct joint military exercises which enhance the capacity and the dimensions of our troops when they mix and operate along with sister services. Conducting this type of exercise will enable mechanized Infantry troops to rehearse amphibious landing on a beach-head which is the most complex of all military manoeuvres.
