CONTRIBUTION BY THE MECHANIZED INFANTRY REGIMENT FOR THE NATIONAL VESAK FESTIVAL IN MATALE

In response to the request made by Members of the Maha Sangha, under the guidance of Major General M G W W W M C B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) and Colonel of the Regiment Mechanized Infantry, Mechanized Infantry Regiment prepared six colourful Vesak lanterns in Matale National Vesak Festival and displayed from 23 May 2024 to 27 May 2024.

The National Vesak Festival attracted both inhabitants and tourists, creating a spiritual and cultural atmosphere throughout the island. This national event outlined the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbana of the Buddha.

Vesak Lanterns were displayed in Ukuwela, Kalalpitiya, Balakaduwa, Udupilla Anurudda Arana Temple, Manandawela Vijesundararamaya and Matale Sri Vidyananda Pirivena.

Among the most competitive Vesak lanterns displayed in the Matale Bauddha Balamandalaya, Vesak Lantern of Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre received the fourth place and Vesak lantern of 3 Mechanized Infantry Regiment won the third place of Vesak Lanterns displayed by the Army in the National Vesak festival.
