ASSUMED DUTIES BY NEWLY APPOINTED COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT MECHANIZED INFANTRY REGIMENT

Major General A P I Fernando RWP USP - Director General General Staff, Army Headquarters assumed duties as the 12th Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment on 21 July 2021 at the Regimental Centre, Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

The Colonel of the Regiment was warmly received upon his arrival by Brigadier L S Balachandra RSP - Chief Executive Officer of Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakshe Theatre along with Brigadier S J Priyadarshana RWP RSP USP - Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier W M S C K Wanasinghe RSP USP - Centre Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

Adhering to the health guidelines, the formal military ceremony was commenced soon after the guard turnout at the entrance. Thereafter, the Colonel of the Regiment placed a floral wreath at the fallen War Heroes’ monument to pay his tribute. Afterwards, he was treated with a guard of honour and he was planted a sapling to mark his assuming duties.

Later, he placed his signature for a formal document amidst simply arranged religious observances to signify the acceptance of the new office and addressed the Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment and conveyed his views and guidance.
