Sri Lanka Artillery bid farewell to outgoing 21st Colonel Commandant Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda ndc IG on 21 December 2021, who retired after serving more than 35 years in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army. Ceremony was held in its customary way at Artillery Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
Commencement of the ceremony marked by laying a flower wreath to the fallen war heroes at the Regimental Monument who made supreme sacrifice to the Motherland. A Guard turnout and Guard of honour was awarded to the outgoing Colonel Commandant by the Troops of the Regiment of Artillery. Thereafter, Colonel Commandant attended the opening ceremony of newly constructed welfare shop followed by the Tea at WOs’ and Sgts’ Mess. The Colonel Commandant unveiled the Name Board of Cricket Ground as scheduled.The Officers present were posted for a group photograph and attended the All Ranks Lunch at ORs’ Mess, 6 SLA. In line with the day’s programme, the newly constructed Artillery Cricket Pavilion declared open by Gen (Retd) CS Weerasooriya RWP RSP VSV USP ndc IG.
A formal dinner offered to the outgoing Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery at the Officers’ Mess with presence of limited number of officers, under the strict existing COVID – 19 protocol.
