The School of Artillery was able to conduct field firingwith help of 122mm Gun Howitzers which are considered as the ‘Basic Gun’ for artillery training, after more than seven years of pause, on 19th and 20th November 2021. Artillery field firing which was conducted at the Field Firing Range Maduruoya, has officially terminated from April 2014 and then inaugural field firing was carried out at the new Field Firing Range at Tempitiya on 16 July 2021 by firing 120mm Light Mortars.
The Deputy Chief of Staff and the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery Major General Sampath Kotuwegodandc IG along with the Commander Artillery Brigade, Brigadier Dammika Welagedara RSP USP psc IG and Commandant School of Artillery, Colonel Roshan Kannangara RSP IG witnessed this historic field firing session at the Field Firing Range –Tempitiya.
Students from Long Gunnery Staff Course (OR), Troop Leader Course, Survey & Target Acquisition Course and Post Depot Course participated for the field firing exercise. Further, 10 Officers from SFHQ (West), 4 Officers and 57 Other Ranks from varies Regiments of Artillery were attended to witness this momentous moment
