Sri Lanka Artillery Marks its 127th Regimental Anniversary with Grandiose Ceremony to Revere War Heroes
Sri Lanka Artillery commenced the celebration of 127th Anniversary of its founding day on Monday, 20th April 2015 with the Ceremony to revere fallen war heroes of the Regiment. Primes event of the Celebration Programme was held at the Regimental Monument, Panagoda with the gracious participation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army as Chief Guest.
Arrival of Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva RWP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Army with the company of Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Sri Lanka Army Sevavanitha Unit marked the commencement of the years long customary proceedings to pay tribute to fallen heroes of the Regiment during catastrophic conflict. Colonel Commandant of Regiment of Artillery, Major General SAAL Perera RWP RSP USP ndu IG and Mrs Pramila Perera welcomed the Commander of the Army and the lady to the Regiment and to the Memorial Parade.
The SLA War Heroes Monument was swarm with kith and kin of War Heroes, retired officers and serving officers and men with their spouses who assembled to witness the proceedings. Two former Commanders of the Army, notable members of the Gunner Family, also among the distinguish guests of the evening. Commencing the ceremony, a minute Silence was observed in memory of those fallen heroes and the Last Post was played to observe military ritual of commemorating those who have killed in war. Regiment’s Ceremonial Guard on parade accorded the Regiment’s and Nation’s salute with a Present Arms and preaching of all faiths were observed by the congregation. Commander of the Army, Colonel Commandant, Representative of the Artillery Ex-servicemen Association, Commander Artillery Brigade and Overlooking Centre Commandant of Regiment of Artillery laid floral wreaths to denote their respect and gratitude to officers and men who sacrifice their lives for the future of the Nation.
