Nine Gunners are to Represent Sri Lanka in South Asian Games
Eight Gunners who excel in sports have reached the qualifying standard of their events to participate in XII South Asian Games (SAG) – 2016 to be held in Guwahati and Shillong, India. Total of 2672 men and women from the Region will be compete in 228 events over 23 sports and a vivid opening ceremony has been planned for 5th February with the presence of Indian Prime Minister Hon Narendra Mody.
Sri Lankan contingent is comprised of 484 men and women athletes and remarkably 144 of them are members of the Sri Lanka Army. The Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery is proud to announce that there are eight gunners to represent the motherland under different fields of sports. They are:
Track and Field
1. Bdr Alenson LADEP - 4 SLA - Hammer Throw.
2. Bdr Fernando AC - 8 SLA - Pole Vault.
3. Bdr Pushpakumara RMS - 5(V) SLA - 5000 M.
4. LBdr Surendra RDUS - 12(V) SLA - 4 X 100 M.
5. Gnr Eshan WKH - 12(V) SLA - 100 M.
Hockey
6. Gnr Hendeniya HMTK - 14 SLA.
7. Gnr Kulathunga KMRD - 14 SLA.
Weight Lifting
8. Bdr Abeywickrama APS - 15 SLA.
Apart from above, WO I MPEN Emil of 7 SLA is also with the touring team as Assistant Coach of National Women Team for Weight Lifting.
