With the conceptual initiative of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc, 35 new houses constructed by 18 Regiments in the Army including Sri Lanka Artillery were formally handed over to the families of fallen war heroes and disable servicemen on 12 October 2015 during a ceremony held at Defence Services Command and Staff Collage auditorium.
The function was graced by Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary to Ministry of Defence as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit of Ministry of Defence. Commander of the Army and Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit with host of invitees also were present at the ceremony including next of kin of recipient War Heroes.
S/158426 Bdr Chandrasena EDDDK, 6 SLA and the family members of Late S/5A01999 LBdr Kusumsiri Senanayake, 5 SLA were among the beneficiaries. Construction of new houses was undertaken by the members of respective units under the close supervision of Commanding Officers. The Regiment is grateful to Commander of the Army and Ministry of Defence and all patrons for the unparalleled life support given to the members of the Regiment.
