Major General SR Manawaduge RWP RSP ndu psc IG assumed office as the 17th Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery on 11th Jan 2016 in a grandiose ceremony held at Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
First he paid his tribute to fallen Heroes of the Regiment by placing a floral wreath at the Regimental Monument. Then he reviewed the Guard Turnout presented by the RHQ and accepted the Regimental salute accorded by members of the Regiment in a parade which included Regimental Colours.
At the auspicious time, the Colonel Commandant placed his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of duties and responsibilities of the appointment in the presence of Council Members, Commanding Officers and staff of RHQ after a brief religious observances and lighting of the Traditional Oil Lamp. The day\'s events also textured with a Tea Party at WOs\' and Sgts\' Mess, Officers Address and All Rank Lunch. Large numbers of officers were present to witness the ceremony and greet the incumbent Colonel Commandant.
Colonel Commandant expressed his gratitude to all great Gunners who brought the glory to the Regiment of Artillery in past and request all officers and other ranks to commit themselves untiringly for the betterment of the Regiment, Army and motherland. He further urged everyone to widen their knowledge and proficiency which shall benefit in the course of discharging the duties and responsibilities towards the Nation as an entity most look forward and sustained by the public funds. He also extended his wishes to all the members of Gunner Tribe and their families to have a prosperous future in all respects.
Major General SR Manawaduge is the most senior gunner officer serving with the Regiment who is having immensurable experiences in the Army in most of the key appointments within the Regiment and Army including diplomatic tenure as a deputy high commissioner. In addition to newly bestowed responsibilities as Colonel Commandant, he is currently holding the office as the Director General Sports of the Sri Lanka Army.
