Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe RSP USP ndu assumed office as the 22nd Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery on 23rd December 2021 in a grandiose ceremony held at Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
Commencement of the ceremony marked by laying a flower wreath to the fallen war heroes at the Regimental Monument who made supreme sacrifice to the Motherland. A Guard turnout and Guard of honour were awarded to the incoming Colonel Commandant by the Troops of the Regiment of Artillery.
As a symbolic gesture of taking over the command, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe placed his signature to a formal document in the presence of Council members, Commanding Officers, other officers and staff of the RHQ after a brief religious rituals and lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The Officers present were posted for a group photograph and attended the all Ranks Tea at RHQ SLA premises. Thereafter, the incoming Colonel Commandant planted a sapling to mark the official inauguration as the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery followed by almsgiving at the Officers' Mess.
The day's events concluded after formal lunch at the Officers' Mess, and the events were conducted under the strict existing COVID - 19 protocol.
