Sri Lanka Artillery bid farewell to its outgoing 19th Colonel Commandant Major General WRP de Silva VSV USP ndu IG on 04 January 2020 who retired after serving more than 34 years in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army. Ceremony was held in its customary way at Artillery Regimental Headquarters, Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, Panagoda.
The commencement of the ceremony marked by paying obeisance to the fallen heroes of the tribe who made supreme sacrifice to the motherland by laying a floral wreath at the Regiment Monument. All Regular and Volunteer units together with School of Artillery accorded the Regimental Parade in honour of the senior Gunner Officer followed by tea party at WOs and Sgts Mess, The newly constructed Office Complex for Headquarters, Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery and Score board for Cricket Ground declared opened by Major General Ruwan de Silva, and all ranks lunch in customary manner.
The day's event also textured with the Farewell Dinner hosted in honour of the outgoing Colonel Commandant by all Officers at the Regimental Officers Mess with their spouses.
Major General Ruwan de Silva commented in his speech both at the Regimental Parade and Farewell Dinner, that extending his heartfelt gratitude for the generous assistance offered by many ways by all Officers and Other Ranks during his military career.
