Artillery Cricket Team Clinched the Championship of Army T20 Cricket Tournament

The finals in Inter Regiment T20 Cricket Tournament - 2019, organized by the Army Cricket Committee was held on 03 September 2019 at Army Cricket Grounds, Panagoda.

The SLAOC team in the finals batted first and scored 188 runs in 20 overs. Accordingly, the SLA team beat SLAOC cricket team by 6 wickets pushing SLAOC team to be the first runner-up emerged as champions.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Army Cricket Committee to witness the finals and after extending his warm congratulations presented the Championship Trophy to the winning SLA team amidst a thundering applause.

Lt Ajantha Mendis, one of cricket’s most famous mystery spinners has retired from all forms of cricket. He has brought glory and honour to the Gunners Tribe by being a member of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team that won the ICC World T20 2014. His performance in the tournament has been outstanding. His achievement could be considered as unique since this is the first time ever that an Army officer has been a member of a Sri Lankan team that won a world sporting title. The Services he rendered toward the cricket also was appreciated by the Commander of the Army during the prize giving.
