    Army buses and luggage carrying Army trucks this morning (25) facilitated the transport of the second batch of 144 returnees who underwent the two-week long quarantine process at Kandakadu Quarantine Centers left for homes after completion of medical procedures and receipt of Quarantine Certificates.

    As one more emergency priority, Sri Lanka Army in consultation with health authorities improvised all holiday homes at Diyatalawa to be the newest Quarantine Centres (QCs) for influx of returnees. In addition, the Army improvised five more buildings, situated in the area under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni at Echchankulam, Vavuniya will become functional as one more Quarantine Centre, says the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during a TV interview, this morning (16).

    The inaugural Media briefing of the 'National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak' (NOCPCO), established at No 1090, Sino Lanka Towers building on Sri Jayawardenapura Mawatha, Rajagiriya on the guidelines given by HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa with the objective of centralizing, expediting and implementing all necessary preventive and containing measures against the transmission of COVID - 19 pandemic, will take place today (17) at 4.30 pm. This Centre is headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

    Shouldering the national responsibility for assisting the quarantining of returnees against transmission of COVID-19 on the directions of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff & Commander of the Army, Army troops playing a prominent role, together with stakeholders in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defence, Office of the Western Province Governor, Ministry of Foreign Relations, Sri Lanka Aviation and Airport Authority, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Transport Board and other relevant agencies have so far established 12 Quarantine Centres (QCs) across the country.
