ARMY WAR COLLEGE ADVANCES PROFESSIONAL MILITARY EDUCATION WITH SECOND TRIMESTER 2026
The Army War College marked the commencement of its Second Trimester for 2026, on 5 May 2026, by inaugurating Senior Command Course (SCC) 17 and Junior Command Course (JCC) 36, reaffirming its role in developing future military leadership.
The courses bring together a diverse group of Officers, with 42 Officers following SCC 17 and 75 Officers enrolled in JCC 36, representing various regiments of the Sri Lanka Army as well as one Student Officer from the Sri Lanka Navy. Notably, JCC 36 includes two Foreign Student Officers from the allied nations of Australia and Maldives, fostering regional military cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations.
The opening address was delivered by Major General DKRN Silva RSP USP psc, Commandant of the Army War College. The Commandant warmly welcomed all participants, stating that the presence of Foreign Student Officers and tri-service representation would enrich the learning environment while promoting greater cooperation and mutual understanding among the Armed Forces. He emphasised excellence in leadership, unwavering professionalism and the importance of holistic education. He highlighted that true leadership development must balance intellectual growth with emotional intelligence, empathy and strong character, nurturing both the mind and the heart. The Commandant also reminded the participants of the high standards of professional conduct, discipline and ethical decision-making expected of them as future leaders of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and allied militaries.
The Army War College expressed confidence that these courses will equip Officers with the strategic insight, operational acumen and tactical proficiency required to meet the evolving security challenges facing Sri Lanka and the wider world. The Army War College remains steadfast in its commitment to cultivating exceptional leaders ready to serve with distinction and dedication.
