VESAK POYA DAY PROGRAMME INVOKES BLESSINGS FOR ARMY WAR COLLEGE

To coincide with the Vesak Poya Day, the most noble day in the Buddhist culture, Army War College held a Dhamma preaching on 23 May 2024 at the AWC temple premises.

As per the directions given by Major General Dinesh Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commandant, troops of the Army War College (AWC) organized a Bodhi Pooja Session on the eve of the Noble Poya Day. Buddha Wandana and Dhamma preaching were conducted by Rev Mapakada Premarathna Nayaka Thero of Katugahagalge Temple, Badalkumbura and he blessed all ranks of the institution including members of the Permanent Staff and Student Officers of three courses.

During the preaching of Dhamma, the Venerable Monk explained the importance of the Vesak Poya Day. This thrice-blessed Vesak Poya Day marks the Birth, Enlightenment and Passing away of Lord Buddha. All these three events took place on the Full Moon Poya Day in the month of Vesak – presently the month of May. Further, he explained the value of the great understanding of the Buddha and his philosophy. The Venerable Monk also emphasised the encompassing a determination for understanding this great teaching of the Buddha.
