Army War College (AWC), the highest seat of military excellence established for military training for middle grade officers of the Army celebrated its second anniversary on Saturday 16 December 2023 giving prominence to both religious observances and military formalities.
To coincide with the celebration programme of the anniversary on Saturday 16 December, a Shramadana campaign to clean and beautify the religious locations was conducted by the troops at Rahatankanda cave monastery temple and Namal Mandiya Bikkuni temple. A Bodhi Pooja Session and Dhamma sermon was conducted by Bikkuni Ven. Dhamma Nirodha residing at Bulugala Bikkuni monastery temple on Saturday (16) evening where Venerable nun blessed all staff members serving in the AWC as well as transferred merits to all the war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the county. Religious events organized in line with the anniversary celebration drawn to the end on the following day by an alms giving for the members of Maha Sanga residing at Katugahagalge temple which was held on the following day morning where the troops attended with immense religious respect.
On Sunday 17 December 2023, troops accorded a guard turn out to Major General UKDDP Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commandant of the AWC. The Commandant planted a sapling of ‘Sandal Tree’ in the AWC premises as a token of memory. After a few minutes, the Commandant posed for a group photograph with the troops in memory of the Second Anniversary commemoration of the AWC.
Then, the Commandant addressed the troops. The anniversary celebration also included with all rank lunch. Programme was brought to an end with a musical event held in the same evening.
