The Senior Command Course 09 undergoing training at Army War College (AWC) completed their study tour to Colombo on 06 and 07 November 2023. The study tour is an important college event that basically aims to heighten the knowledge about the functions of designated government institutions and the headquarters of Sri Lanka Army, Western Naval command Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force base Rathmalana.
Having commenced the expedition on 06 November 2023, they first visited to the Army Headquarters (AHQ) where the AWC delegation posed a group photograph with the Senior Appointments of the Sri Lanka Army along with the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army volunteer Force who represented the Commander of the Army. Thereafter, the student officers and the faculty members of AWC had an official interaction with the senior officer at the AHQ headed by the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer force. The Director General General Staff, subsequently conducted a comprehensive presentation on “The Role of a contemporary Battalion Commander .Thereafter the forum was opened to question and answer session with the Principle Staff Officers and Directors at the AHQ in view of furthering the knowledge of the Student Officers on existing Army policies and especially future challenges of national security.
In the afternoon of day one, Senior Command course visited the Centre for Defence, Research and Development for acquainting on the research and development projects carried out by the institute. The visit facilitated to interact with resource personnel in CDRD and gained the knowledge on present day research and development works in Defence sector.
The visit of Western Naval Command of Sri Lanka Navy was conducted on 7 November 2023 during day two of the study tour. It made another fruitful educational session on the implications on Naval Affairs and the Student Officers had a good opportunity to have an overall understanding of the naval operation of Sri Lanka Navy where the student officers were also able to visit the advanced offshore vessel called “Gajabahu” and listen to the briefing carried out by a naval officer on the entire function of the vessel.
On the same day, the student officers visited the Disaster Management Centre where underscored a vivid picture on the operations done at the Centre being the hub of managing of the natural disasters and executing prompt actions on such situations.
Finally, the visiting delegation moved to Sri Lanka Air Force base Rathmalana to observe the functions of Air Base and gained the understanding on operational commitment of Air Force in the present day context.
The Commandant AWC Major General UKDDP Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc along with Chief Instructor, Directing Staff and 29 Student Offices of the Senior Command Course 09 participated in the study tour.
