ARMY WAR COLLEGE HOLDS THE SECOND HASH RUN OF 2023

The ‘Hash Run’ of the second trimester of 2023 of Army War College was successfully held on 24 June 2023. The ‘Hash Run’ is one of the major outdoor activities undertaken by the college every trimester to afford student officers a well-earned pleasurable time out from continuous academic associations and the student officers of Senior Command Course 8, Junior Command Course 27 and Junior Staff Course 24 joined in the event with the participation of the Commandant, Chief Instructor, all faculty members and the permanent staff. The event commenced with the sign of lowering the checkered flag by Brigadier UKDDP Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc Commandant Army War College who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The ‘Hash Run’ humorously known as ‘drinking club with running problems’ started in the late 1930s has now become a popular non-competitive running event in this nature. Keeping this tradition alive, the trail of the AWC ‘Hash Run’ this time included adventurous running, obstacle crossing and finding the way around 12km along the cross-country pathway, thus experiencing fun and joy all the way consuming village-based food and beverages wearing specially designed T-shirts and shorts for the occasion. During the event, an intuitive occurrence where the AWC troops unexpectedly stood for donating alms to a hermit-bound Buddhist monk from a European country who had been in ‘Alms round’ or ‘Pindapatha’ carrying a bowl searching for breakfast after the sunrise as taught in the ‘Vinaya Pitaka’.

Upon termination of the run, all the Hashers assembled at the open theater area of the college and continued with a session of interactive social activities connected with karaoke, music and dance
