With the intention of developing camaraderie among the student officers as well as to drive away the monotony of the academic environment, the cricket encounter comprising of the teams of the three courses and the permanent staff was organised in line with the OCDC 2019-year planner and culminated successfully at OCDC play ground on 19 October 2019.
The Commandant of OCDC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the teams from Unit Command Course 5, Junior Command Course 17, Junior Staff Course 17& the Permanent Staff of OCDC participated in the event. Over the years, the directing staff teams were dominating the tournaments and have emerged as the champions continuously. However, for the first time in OCDC history, team 5 of Junior Command Course captained by Major KGM Bandara SLE emerged as the best team and won the finals. The Directing Staff Team led by Major PGAP Jayawardane RSP psc SLLI became runner up.
Major KWKR Jayasinghe RSP psc SLE from the Permanent Staff Team was awarded with the Best Batsman trophy of the series by scoring 140 runs in 4 matches and Major TRCS Thennakoon SLA from Junior Command Course became the Best Bowler in this competitive encounter.
After the victorious completion of the event, all the officers entertained themselves in a social gathering. The creative comedy displayed by the members of Junior Staff Course added extra glamour for the occasion. The function was held at the open cinema premises and finally the session was concluded with a buffet lunch at the Officers’ Mess.
