THE UNVEILING OF A NEW SAMADHI BUDDHA STATUE TAKES PLACE IN THE TEMPLE PREMISES OF OCDC

The religious ceremony for the unveiling of Samadhi Buddha Statue at the temple premises was held on 07 December 2020 marking the 94th birthday of the Chief Incumbent of the West Virginia Meditation Centre, USA, Dr. Ven. Henepola Gunarathana Maha Nayake Thero. The concept of erecting a Buddha Statue was firstly inspired by the former Commandant of the OCDC Major General KJ Jayaweera (Rtd) RWP RSP USP rcds and it came to a reality with the assistance provided by the Chief Incumbent of the West Virginia Meditation Centre and Nirodha Meditation Foundation. The unveiling ceremony was held amidst the chanting of pirith and the Chief Incumbent of Yudaganawa Rajamaha Viharaya Ven. Galtemwaththe Dharmakeerthi Shri Chandrajothi Nandarathana Thero unveiled the statue of Lord Buddha underpinning the common Buddhist heritage and religious links between Sri Lanka Army and Buddhism. Mr: Kapila Gunawardhane, a representative of Nirodha Meditation Foundation presented the message of Ven. Henepola Gunarathana Maha Nayake Thero. The task of redesigning of the landscape and the construction work at the temple premises was accomplished by ESR team and the construction provided a charming background for the Statue along with the attractively renovated pond in front of it. The former Commandant of the OCDC Major General KJ Jayaweera (Rtd) RWP RSP USP rcds, Brigadier Training ARTRAC, Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructor, Senior Instructor of JCC, Commanding Officer, senior officers of the permanent staff and other ranks joined the event. The ceremony was followed by an alms giving at the Commandant’s Chalet.
