The Student Officers of Senior Command Course (SCC) 16, conducted by the Army War College, successfully completed Exercise GREAT WALL from 24 to 30 January 2026, a major exercise in their academic calendar.
Exercise GREAT WALL is a key operational-level training activity designed to enhance decision-making and the application of the estimate process at brigade level within a divisional framework. Conducted as a sub-syndicate activity, the exercise comprised Mission Analysis, Cloth Model Discussions, and a Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) in the general area of Kodayana, Siyambalanduwa.
Through structured planning, professional critique, and ground validation, Student Officers translated doctrinal knowledge into practical defensive plans, sharpening their tactical judgement and operational thinking. Conducted amid a demanding academic schedule, the exercise highlighted the officers’ resilience and professionalism, as they successfully completed the training while demonstrating adaptability, teamwork, and sound professional judgement.
Exercise GREAT WALL continues to reinforce the Army War College’s commitment to developing confident, resilient, and operationally competent future commanders capable of meeting operational demands in complex security environments.
