STUDENT OFFICERS OF ARMY WAR COLLEGE UNDERTAKE EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO THE SRI LANKA MILITARY ACADEMY

Student Officers of Senior Command Course 17 (SCC 17) and Junior Command Course 36 (JCC 36), currently undergoing training at the Army War College (AWC), Buttala, conducted an educational study visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyatalawa on 16 May 2026. The visiting delegation comprised 42 Student Officers from SCC 17 and 78 Student Officers from JCC 36. The visit was organised in line with the course curriculum with the objective of enhancing and refreshing the Officers’ knowledge on essential military drills and procedures practiced within the Sri Lanka Army.

On arrival at the SLMA, the delegation was warmly received by the Chief Instructor at the main entrance. The programme commenced with an introductory briefing on ceremonial drills, followed by practical demonstrations on Street Line, Guard Turnout, Guard of Honour, Guard Mounting and Dismounting and Staff Parade procedures. The visit concluded with a Funeral Drill Demonstration conducted at Fox Hill.

During the course of the visit, the Student Officers also toured the Officer Cadets’ Mess. The study visit provided a valuable learning opportunity for the officers to observe and gain practical insights into important military drills and ceremonial procedures. The delegation was accompanied by the Chief Instructor of the AWC, together with Senior Instructors, Directing Staff and Administrative Staff members of the institution.
