STUDENT OFFICERS OF 3RD TRIMESTER EDUCATED ON 'HUMAN RIGHTS AND ICRC'

A comprehensive series of lectures on the International Humanitarian Law & International Committee of the Red Cross (IHL & ICRC) Roles conducted on 19 October 2023 at the Main Auditorium of the Army War College (AWC).

AWC organized the lecture on the subjected topic with the view to enhance knowledge of the student officers of Senior Command Course 09, Junior Command Course 29.

All together 87 Student officers, Faculty Members and the Staff Officers of AWC participated in the lecture. The lectures were conducted by Mr Channa Jayawardena, the Armed and Security Forces Programme Advisor of International Committee of the Red Cross.

During the lecture, Student Officers were educated on ICRC Role and Mandate, applicable laws to military operations, legal framework for military operations, roots of behaviour, peacekeeping & IHL, protection of civilians and ICRC relations.

During the day's proceedings, as a gesture of good-will and the faith of Mr Chandana Jayawardena representing the ICRC donated an invaluable pack of books to the library of the AWC for the reference of studies on the pertinent subject.

All Student Officers actively took part in the workshop and exchanged the positive views and clarified doubts during the case study exercise session.
