The Sri Lanka Army War College proudly commenced the First Trimester of 2026 with the inauguration of the Senior Command Course (SCC) 16 and Junior Command Course (JCC) 35, reaffirming its commitment to developing capable and forward-looking military leaders.

The opening address was delivered by Major General DKRN Silva RSP USP psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army War College, who emphasised excellence in leadership, unwavering professionalism, and the importance of holistic education. He highlighted that true leadership development must balance intellectual growth with emotional intelligence, empathy, and strong character, nurturing both the mind and the heart.

The courses bring together a diverse group of officers, with 52 officers following SCC 16 and 92 officers enrolled in JCC 35, representing various regiments of the Sri Lanka Army as well as officers from the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. Notably, JCC 35 includes two Foreign Student Officers from the allied nations of Bangladesh and Pakistan, fostering regional military cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations. The Commandant warmly welcomed all participants, stating that the presence of Foreign Officers and tri-service representation would enrich the learning environment while promoting greater cooperation and mutual understanding among the Armed Forces.

During his address, the Commandant outlined the academic objectives of each course, noting that the Senior Command Course is designed to prepare selected Lieutenant Colonels and Majors to become professionally competent and successful Commanding Officers, while the Junior Command Course aims to enhance the evolving knowledge and leadership requirements of middle-grade officers with a particular focus on command responsibilities. He further reminded the participants of the high standards of professional conduct, discipline, and ethical decision-making expected of them as future leaders of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and allied militaries.

The Sri Lanka Army War College expressed confidence that these courses will equip officers with the strategic insight, operational acumen, and tactical proficiency required to meet the evolving security challenges facing Sri Lanka and the wider world.

The First Trimester of 2026 is expected to be a period of rigorous academic engagement, professional development, and strengthened camaraderie among officers from diverse backgrounds and nations. The Sri Lanka Army War College remains steadfast in its commitment to cultivating exceptional leaders ready to serve with distinction and dedication.
