The Senior Command Course 10 undergoing training at Army War College (AWC) completed their study tour to Colombo as programmed from 13 March 2024 to 15 March 2024. The study tour is an important college event that basically aims to enhance the knowledge about the functions of designated government institutions and the headquarters of Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force
Having commenced the tour on 13 March 2024, they first visited to the Army Headquarters (AHQ) where the AWC deligation that consisted of student officers and the faculty members had an official interaction with the senior officer at the AHQ headed by the Deputy Chief of Staff and posed a group photograph with the Senior Appointments of the Sri Lanka Army together with the Deputy Chief of Staff who represented the Commander of the Army. The Director General Training subsequently conducted a comprehensive presentation on 'The Role of a Contemporary Battalion Commander'. Thereafter the forum was opened to question and answer session with the Principle Staff Officers and Directors at the AHQ in view of strengthening the knowledge of the Student Officers on existing Army policies and especially future challenges of national security.
In the afternoon of the same day, the course visited the Centre for Defence, Research and Development and auaented the knowledge on the research and development projects carried out by the institute. The visit facilitated to interact with resource personnel in CDRD and expanded their awareness on present day research and development works in the Defence sector.
The visit of Headquarters of Sri Lanka Navy was conducted on 14 Mach 2024 during day two of the study tour. It made another fruitful educational session on the implications on Naval Affairs and the Student Officers had a good opportunity to have an overall understanding of the naval operation of Sri Lanka Navy. The Student Officers were also able to visit the Navy Operation Room subsequently and listen to the briefing carried out by a naval officer on the entire function of the Operation Room. In the meantime, the Student Officers had a good opportunity to have an overall understanding of the air operation of Sri Lanka Air Force since the Student Officers visited the Air force operation room and listent to the briefing carried out by an Air force Officer on the entire function of the Operation Room On the same day, visited port city complex and had an opportunity to listen comprehensive briefing on sustainable values, a healthy environment with future-ready infrastructure to enhance living convenience and to provid the highest quality commercial, entertainment, medical, educational and lifestyle opportunities.
On 15 March 2024, the Student Officers visited the Disaster Management Centre where underscored a vivid picture on the operations done at the Centre being the hub of managing of the natural disasters and executing prompt actions on such situations.
As the final point, the visiting delegation moved to National Defence College to observe the functions and gained the understanding on strategic learning objectives of senior officers of the Tri-Services, Police and Public Service
