DURUTU POYA DAY PROGRAMME INVOKES BLESSINGS FOR ARMY WAR COLLEGE

To coincide with the Durutu Poya day proceedings of Buddhist ritual practices, Army War College (AWC) invoked blessings on 25 January 2024 with a Dhamma preaching at the AWC temple premises.

On the instructions of the Commandant, Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc troops organised Bodhi Pooja session to mark the first poya day of the year with the blessings of Members of Maha Sanga. Buddha Wandana and Dhamma preaching was conducted by Rev Mapakada Premarathna Nayaka Thero of Katugahagalge Temple, Badalkumbura and blessed all ranks of the institution.

During the preaching of Dhamma, the Venerable monk explained the importance of the Durutu Poya day as Duruthu Poya celebrates Gautama Buddha’s momentous first visit to Sri Lanka twenty-five centuries ago and marks the country’s initiation to the teachings of Buddhism.

Chief Instructor, members of the faculty, administrative staff, Student Officers and Other Ranks of the AWC were associated the religious observances.
