ARMY WAR COLLEGE HOSTS A SESSION OF SHARING EXPERIENCE ON MULLAITIVU OPERATION
The Army War College successfully conducted a session of sharing experience on 26 March 2026, focusing on the pivotal theme “Mullaitivu - from Debacle to Victory” The session featured Major General Nandana Udawatta (Retired) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, a highly decorated and seasoned military leader who led the 59 Infantry Division to advance from Welioya sector, fighting through dense jungles in the Mullaitivu area to capture the town of Mullaitivu on 25 January 2009, shared invaluable insights and first-hand experiences on high-intensity battle operations and leadership.
A total of 142 Student Officers from Senior Command Course 16 and Junior Command Course 35, along with officers from Sister Services and Foreign Officers from Bangladesh and Pakistan, participated in the session. The session was attended by senior officials, including Major General D K R N Silva RSP USP psc, Commandant Army War College together with Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructor, Other Faculty Members and Permanent Staff.
Major General Nandana Udawatta’s address provided a unique perspective on the Mullaitivu operation, offering participants a deeper understanding of military professionalism and operational strategy. These specific sessions that are vital components of the professional military education programme of Army War College, aim to foster intellectual dialogue and informal learning through expert-led discussions.
Towards the end, the Commandant, on behalf of the Army War College, expressed his sincere gratitude to Major General Nandana Udawatta (Retired) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil for his enlightening contribution and presented a memento as a token of appreciation of his excellent service rendered as a resource person sharing his expertise, knowledge and experience.
