The Diṭvā cyclone that occurred on 26 November 2025, disaster relief operations were initiated under emergency conditions on the directives of the Commander, Security Forces (Central), Major General K A W N H Bandaranayake USP. Accordingly, all Army personnel of Divisions, Brigades and Units under the Security Forces Headquarters (Central) were mobilized without delay to carry out relief operations.
On 17 December 2025, the Commander, Security Forces (Central), addressing the Army personnel who initially took part in the disaster relief planning and operations at the auditorium of the Security Forces Headquarters (Central), elaborated on the high level of confidence and trust placed by the civilian population and the Government in the Sri Lanka Army for their active participation in such operations.
Furthermore, the Commander highlighted that, owing to the training, efficiency and professionalism of Army personnel, it was possible to attend to the immediate needs of the affected civilian population and to restore civil administrative functions in disaster-stricken areas within a very short period of time. He also expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to all personnel for their valuable contribution.
A tea reception was hosted by the Security Forces Headquarters (Central) in honors of the officers and Other Ranks who took part in the relief operations. On the occasion, the Commander engaged in a cordial interaction with the troops, providing them an opportunity to share their experiences gained during the operation.
