TROOPS CONDUCT SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS IN THE WALIMADA-RENDAPOLA LANDSLIDE AREA

Due to adverse weather conditions experienced across the island, several houses in the Walimada -Rendapola area were affected by a landslide on the night of 29 November 2025. To rescue displaced persons and recover the bodies of the deceased, a total of 02 x 47 troops from the 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch and the 23rd Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, operating under the Security Force Headquarters (Central), were promptly dispatched to the affected location.

The rescue operations continued until 1430 hours on 30 November 2025, during which troops conducted earth-clearing operations for nearly 15 hours. During the effort, seven bodies buried under the debris were recovered, while 13 stranded civilians were safely rescued and subsequently evacuated to designated safety centers within the area.

Upon completion of the assigned duties, the troops returned to their respective camps and reported back accordingly.
