12 INFANTRY DIVISION CELEBRATES THE 14TH ANNIVERSARY

A series of events such as community services, sports events, conduct of religious events and military formalities marked the 14th anniversary of the 12 Infantry Division Headquarters at Nagarawewa, Hambantota during the Months of February, March and April 2025.

All anniversary arrangements were organized on the guidance of Major General Sumal Hemarathna RWP RSP psc, the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Infantry Division, began with GOC Challenge Trophy tournaments of Cricket, Volleyball and Badminton with the participation of officers and other ranks in the under command brigades and battalions got underway during the months of February and March.

As one more needful segment of the anniversary events, 24 children with special needs at Kanchadeva Children’s Home in Siribopura, Hambantota were taken on an excursion inside the Ridiyagama Open Safari Zoo and thereafter they were offered with a lunch and a gift pack with needy accessories and essentials on 30 March.

Moreover, a ‘Waru Pirith Chanting Ceremoney’ was followed by alms giving for 14 Buddhist Monks were took place on 31 March and 01 April in the Division Headquarters. And, the Division flag along with the flags of formations were blessed at Kirivehera and Kataragama Devalaya at the evening of 01 April.

On the anniversary day 02 April, the GOC was accorded with a formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour by the troops of 18 Battalion The Gamunu Watch. To mark, the anniversary day GOC posed for a photograph with the staff and planted a sapling. Later, the troops were addressed by the GOC and had interacted with the officers and other ranks during the all ranks lunch.

As the final event of the anniversary arrangements, a musical entertainment kicked off of 04 April 2025 at 12 Infantry Division ground as dusk fell and the GOC, Major General Sumal Hemarathna RWP RSP psc, inaugurated the musical evening as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Civil Servants participated in the anniversary celebrations.
