Train services on the up-country track were completely interrupted owing to an earth slip on the tracks between Ohiya and Idalgashinna railway stations during the morning on 22 November 2023. The situation barricaded the Colombo - Badulla night mail train, and stopped at Ohiya railway station
At the first notice, troops belongs to Security Force Headquarters (Central) rushed to the location, and made a great effort to remove the earth mounds and clear the rail passage amidst the torrential showers. The troops succeeded the task to restore the operations on the up-country line, with the assistance of railway station staff and residents.
